"The light has gone out of our lives and there is darkness everywhere" – Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru announces the death of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi the Mahatma on 30th January 1948.

On Jan. 30, 1948, Mohandas "Mahatma" Gandhi was assassinated on his way to daily prayer. His body was cremated on this day 58 years ago.
