Indian-born steel magnate Lord Paul was ennobled in 1996 and appointed to the Privy Council last year.
Both Bliar & especially Brown knew that Tax avoidance is the legal utilization of the tax regime to one’s own advantage, to reduce the amount of tax that is payable by means that are within the law. By contrast, tax evasion is the general term for efforts to not pay taxes by illegal means.
A measure to ban non-doms – who do not pay UK tax on overseas earnings – from sitting in Parliament was inserted into the Constitutional Reform and Governance Bill with cross-party support.
The sooner Britain opt for the fully elected upper house the better so as to arrest such outrageous crimes against the Country in which he enjoys a seat in the House of Lords and being a Privy Council. Having avoided paying tax in UK for so may years and having, knowingly, paid only a part of that evasion in the New Labour Party funds, for which he was conferred the Lordship, he know wants to pay full tax ONLY to retain his seat on the HoL is a measure of a man who on his own say so came to UK only to get medical treatment for his daughter and stayed only to value this devalued, defamed and derided ‘colonial status’ more than his ability and business acumen to succeed and create jobs for the UK citizens including Global citizens.
Finally, his name Swaraj means self-government – in any sense it is an anathema to the Govt and the credibility of this Country.
If both Swaraj and Brown were not challenged in light of the suspect Con-dom Ashcroft – would he have and been, knowingly, allowed to continue by the Govt, not paying tax in the UK?
How is this different to the the Lords & MPs found with their hands in the tills of the Public Purse?
Both Ashcroft & Paul have, knowingly, not been paying into the Public Purse.
